PODIUM FOR TALENT FROM THE NORTH: NOORDSTERREN

It's that time again! From March 5 to 8, 2026, we proudly celebrate the 46th edition of the Assen
International Film Festival (IFA), with a rich offering of national and international films, compelling
masterclasses and workshops, inspiring network opportunities, our short film competitions
KersVers & Noordsterren and a range of fascinating side events, as always celebrating female
makers. We look forward to welcoming you all to Assen!

With Noordsterren we offer an annual platform and an inspiring meeting place for emerging
filmmakers from Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland. For the upcoming edition in 2026, we are
looking for professional and semi-professional filmmakers (f/m/x) from the north. Thematically, the
films do not necessarily have to match the focus of our festival - women in front of and behind the
camera - but this is of course welcomed. Read more about the festival's vision here.

We want to stimulate the development of film talent in the Northern Netherlands and contribute to
expanding the network of Northern filmmakers. This year we are presenting an award for the Best
Northern Film for the tenth time. The selected films will be judged by a professional jury, and the
award, accompanied by a cheque of 1000 euro, is awarded during the festival.

We welcome submissions of both documentaries and fiction films in all conceivable genres, with
short or medium length, produced between January 1, 2024 and December 1, 2025. View all the

From October 20, 2025 to December 1, 2025 you can submit your film(s) free of charge using this
form.

We ask you to send us a screener first. The screener is a copy of the film we will be using during the selection process. Please send us a Vimeo or Youtube link, and make sure that the video can be embedded. If you don't have your film online please contact us directly at shortfilm@filmfestivalassen.nl.

If your film is selected for the festival we will ask you to send us a master. The master is the copy we will use for projecting your film on the big screen.

Wij vragen je eerst een screener naar ons te sturen. De screener is een kopie van de film die we gaan gebruiken tijdens het selectieproces. Stuur ons een Vimeo- of Youtube-link en zorg ervoor dat de video kan worden ingesloten (embedded). Heb je je film niet online staan, neem dan direct contact met ons op via shortfilm@filmfestivalassen.nl.

Als je film geselecteerd wordt voor het festival, dan vragen wij je om een master te sturen. De master is de kopie die we gebruiken om uw film op het witte doek te projecteren.
